Golden Globes: why there wasn't a best dressed

the movies were exciting, the winners deserved the awards, no big surprises, we were all pleased with the choices, the hosts were entertaining, funny, ironic, wit as we would want them all along.

Sienna wearing custom Erdem. a note: cropped tops we have seen the following week in Christian Dior Couture, so she was trending before the trend. she wanted to give credits to an English designer and she firmly believed in him. the Americans didn’t understand it, oh well.

the show sailed smoothly with no drama (except Jodie Foster’s speech that will end up studied and dissected in the years to come), no Hollywood diva outshining the others or standing out. it seemed all so perfect that fashion was kinda flat too, no pulse.

She chose Alexander McQueen for comfort … mmm … did she think it was cool saying that? couldn’t have been a little more appealing mentioning the exquisite neckline beadwork and the impeccable cut? we have to remember she’s in the catalog of Ann Taylor which is all about streamline comfort …

this is Christian Dior Couture perfection although she really wasn’t sure what that meant. nothing dahlin’ , you just wore the first collection designed by Raf Simmons for Dior and you don’t know it

this one knows what she’s doing, with British accent

until tonight at the SAG awards,

yours truly

Man Fashion Week {revisited}

Pitti started it, Milan continued it together with London (how did that happen I missed the memo), now Berlin. People to see places to go.

The gossips, the pre-show shows of uber glamour and street style chases have less of an impact during man season. Major gossip is who didn’t make it to the runways and the myth that what Miuccia sends on the man runway is a prelude of where is she going to go with the woman collection. Miuccia forever.

So here is a portfolio of what the women of the business of fashion wear to attend the runways.

Masculine, tom boy, suits, flats and hats.

And there’s a trend or maybe is an unspoken code of the high ranks. Or maybe it is just that European flair of wearing flats and slippers and being able to look feminine and chic at the same time?

Just to have an idea on how Milan transforms itself during fashion week: a classic Milanese gentleman going to work and a fashion victim one.

La Milano da bere.

#MFW day n.1: the art of devotion

Devotion is the one and only inspiration of the Dolce & Gabbana collection. The same way a Sicilian is devoted to iconoclastic imagery, piety and innocence, to designers duo is devoted to tailoring, detail and creativity (which includes choosing regular street guys to walk on the show mingled with runway models).

#MFW day n.1: fifty shades of coat(ing)

Winter and coats equal classics. Burberry’s Creative Director, Christopher Bailey, called the collection I Heart Classics and he indeed made the usual looking unusual, unexpected and new. point grabbed with a translucent rubber topcoat and a calfskin trench.

A Pitti showdown (from the Southern Riviera)

When the switch between the holidays and Pitti clicks, it is called the new #[insert the city] F[ashion]W[eek] season. That wanting to be there and having to watch runways vicariously through webcasts or Instagram.

Picture this: watch the new autumn ‘13  runways attended by the most fabulous crowd donning in the best of the best of the fall ‘12 collections sitting at your computer with a constant 80 degrees temperature. The perspective gets surreal.

You see these pictures from the aisles of La Fortezza Da Basso and then you happen to stroll in Lincoln Road and capture middle aged men wearing tight fitted black underwear tees and flared jeans with black squared toe shoes …

Or, you see this grandeur (excuse me, a man with a rust Cosentino coat) and then the dirty truth, such as baggy cargo bermudas and short socks sticking out of sneakers.

That’s when champagne weekends spent devouring every style.com review kick in.

More on this later …

who wants to be color of the year?

Every time Pantone announces the color of the year, I think of all the rest of the colors in a sort of Hunger Games competition. And then the trilogy galore, Hollywood style. glad that this year it’s a color I can wear, not like the Tangerine Tango that killed me in 2012.
